How to maintain and get the best from your enhancements.
I always say to my clients that I've done my job in creating a beautiful set of enhancements for them, and now its their job to look after them and get the best from them. Here are some helpful tips.
Getting used to your nails.
- Book regular re-balance appointments to keep your nails in top condition. Its a good idea to book a series of appointments at one go. Try and book the same day and same time, every 2 - 3 weeks, to make it easier to remember!
- Dont bite or pick your nail enhancements. This can lead to weakening or breakage and can cause damage and thinning to your natural nails.
- If you notice any lifting don't pull or pick at it, and don't ignore it. Return to the salon as soon as possible, where your nail can be repaired.
- It may take you a little while to get used to your new set of enhancements. But you will get used to using your hands in a different way and your nail enhancements will start to feel as natural as your own nails.
Around the house.
- Do wear rubber gloves when you wash up or clean. Detergents and solvents can be harmful to the natural nail plate.
- Watch out for things like draws and cupboard doors - these can easily catch and break a nail enhancement. Be careful with things like ring-pulls, don't use the nail tips to pull laundry out of a basket or to flick switches. Your nail enhancements are not tools!
- One of my golden rules - Make sure your nail shape and length match your lifestyle. Nails that are too long for your lifestyle and activity level result in too much pressure being put on the stress area of your nail plate, leading to broken or torn natural nail plate.
What products should I use on my new enhancements?
- SolarOil - use it daily. Applying twice a day is good, massaging it into your nail enhancements. This will keep them flexible, prolong their life and will reduce the chances of breakages.
- Use a hand lotion that penetrates your skin and nail enhancements. I recommend SolarSilk (which is whipped-up Solaroil), but any good Lanolin-Free hand cream will be ok.
- Removing nail enamel? - Always use a recommended approved non-acetone remover. Others can lead to damage to the enhancement.
- If you should need to remove your enhancements, then return to the salon for a professional soak-off. Your enhancements will be gently removed without damaging your nail plate, using a special product remover. You will also get a manicure to restore moisture and condition to the natural nails.
Let yourself be pampered.
- Leave all the hard work to me, and just enjoy great looking nails!
